It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that, in conjunction with our superintendent of schools, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Hudson Children's Book Festival. In addition, several of you had planned on coming into our schools for author visits prior to the festival, and we have to cancel those visits, as well.
It is the highlight of our year, and we look forward to hosting this event. We are deeply disappointed to have to make this decision, but we feel it is in the best interest of all those involved in making the festival possible.
We will hold your spot for our 2021 event which will be scheduled for Saturday, May 1st. We will plan on getting back in touch with all of you towards the end of summer to confirm your participation for 2021. We will also be using the same poster that Brendan Wenzel beautifully illustrated for 2021.
We wish all of you health in these uncertain times, and we will look forward to hosting you all in 2021.
Over the past 11 years, the Hudson Children’s Book Festival has hosted several performances on festival day. We have had musical performances by Aaron Nigel Smith and John Farrell who include all children in their shows. We’ve hosted Walter Dean Myers as a keynote speaker who joined us while he served as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. We’ve also had Steve “The Dirtmeister” Tomecek who has put on amazing science shows for us. Come see who we have coming at this years festival!

Based on the ever-popular, award-winning cartoons, this fast-paced musical teaches lessons with clever, catchy tunes.
The story follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction” bring his lesson plans vividly to life.
Directed and choreographed by Danielle DeLamater and Produced by Edgar Acevedo, Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR. is a surefire hit amongst audiences of all ages and experience levels.
This production is made possible through the support of the Hudson Children’s Book Festival and Jack Shear.
